The Last Days Work

1986, 100 minutes

Directed By:Brian McKenzie

A documentary that takes an unblinking look at the thing we most revere and certainly rely upon. Work. Each day of the week sees a new work place. The government department of administrative services is where government stationary is tested, elsewhere an insurance broker works the phone, a father and son bicker in their truck wrecking yard, a radio journalist chases down the grisly outcome of late night car accidents. What does it signify? We are not told but the accumulation of dull and pointless duties, and the sense of dread that is often to do with the motor car must mean something.

Made with a documentary fellowship from The Australian Film Commission. Broadcast on ABC television.
